Dr. Okba is a research assistant professor in the Department of Microbiology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York, USA.
Nisreen Okba graduated from the faculty of pharmacy, Tanta University, Egypt, after which she obtained a MSc in pharmaceutical Microbiology. She obtained her phD in Virology from the Department of Viroscience, Erasmus MC, The Netherlands. Her research focused on zoonotic preparedness, aiming at understanding immunity to MERS-CoV and the development of therapeutic antibodies and vaccines. With the start of the pandemic, she continued to work on coronaviruses in the same department, as a postdoctoral researcher focusing on SARS-CoV-2. She moved to the Icahn school of Medicine in mid 2022, where her main research focuses on developing broadly protective antibodies and vaccines against Influenza and Coronaviruses. Her work has been published in leading scientific journals including Science, Nature Communications, Cell and Lancet infectious diseases and she has been recognized as a highly cited researcher 2022-2024 (Web of Science).
